Over the past few days, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has announced further restrictions for citizens and businesses to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
In response to these restrictions, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy has issued a statement that outlines further steps the governor can take to address key issues in the health care system for addressing the pandemic. This includes rolling back regulations that hinder the response of medical institutions.
Lindsay Killen, vice president for strategic outreach & communications at the Mackinac Center had this to say about steps that she believes the governor should take: "The focus in Michigan has been on limiting what citizens can do. But there is something else that government can do -- get out of the way. Earlier this year, Gov. Whitmer smartly rolled back 'Certificate of Need' regulations on medical providers and licensing rules on workers. The state should suspend laws that limit hospitals and workers to help Michigan fight the virus."
